There are a sea of complaints about the iPad, and I agree, and disagree with a good amount of them. But I don’t see anyone even mentioning the unseemly small capacity of this thing. In my opinion; “16gb” shouldn’t even exist in most of Apple’s vocabulary. Yet there it is at entry level. Now, you might be thinking, “well that’s good enough for me,” but that’s not the problem. The problem is, that it’s not good enough for Apple. All the content apple provides are high quality; meaning very large file sizes. And if you’re going to be an Ipad user, everything you hear, see, play, write, and read will be coming from apple someway. Therefore, you are going to be filling up your iPad with all its exclusive (presumeably larger) content. And litle by little, you are going to hit that cap. And when you do, you are going to have to play a little game that I play with my iPod Touch constantly called “what am I going to have to sacrifice.” now luckily, not everything I have put on my iPod since I’ve bought It has been essential, so the game has been forgiving. However, in doing this, you start keeping content on your device that you only really want, and therefore can’t keep sacrificing forever. Now I forsaw this little problem and told my self don’t get the entry level 8gb version, and spring for the mid level 16gb. 2 years later, and 16gb has become entry level for the iPod touch and ipad. The reason? quite obvious: Apple’s stores. The iTunes Store, The App Store, and now the iBook store. billions of songs, dowloads ($) and counting. So my question (and complaint) is, why doesn’t apple raise the storage of its devices, taking Slightly less profit At retail, and in return obtain an even more gargantuant amount of revenue from the holy trinity? Because I know if I don’t have to worry about disk space, then I’ll be less reluctant to buy the bigger size content. but we all know once we run out of space, we will buy another one and so they don’t mind. but that process takes time and during that time, it’s less money. which means less support for developers and artist. And when they suffer, we all do.
So for the iPhone, ipad, and itouch “4G” let’s hope that Apple is greedy enough to get lots of money really fast and increase the capacity of all of our beloved apple products by a more substantial amount.
